  • Police officer shot on North Side

A Chicago police officer and at least one other person were wounded in a shooting on the North Side Saturday evening.

The officer was shot on the 5800 block of North Winthrop Avenue about 5:30 p.m., according to a source.

According to unconfirmed dispatch reports, at least one other person was wounded in the incident.

Reportedly, a police officer and another person were injured, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports. Both the officer and the man regarded as the suspect were being treated at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to unconfirmed reports.

Police News Affairs said representatives were on the scene in the area of Broadway and Glenlake Avenue, but no details were immediately available on the incident.

A Fire Media Affairs spokesman said ambulances responded to that area but he did not immediately have information on injuries or hospital transports.

Two CTA bus routes -- the No. 36 Broadway and No. 151 Sheridan -- had been rerouted since the shooting in both directions around Devon and Greenview and Broadway and Thorndale, according to a CTA rider alert. The reroute was still in effect as of about 7:15 p.m.
